Tesla Held 3 Negotiation Rounds with the Govt of Maharashtra, India & Intends to Open a Store in Mumbai

Tesla is in talks with officials from five states in India to open stores, an office, an R&D center, and possibly a manufacturing plant. The company recently officially registered itself in Bangalore, and located the company's headquarters near the Bangalore Club on Richmond Circle Junction, where it appears it is preparing to open a store.

Tesla registered as Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd in Bangalore. The company has so far appointed three directors: Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatarangam Sriram, and David John Feinstein. Taneja is CFO at Tesla, while Feinstein is Global Trade Director at Tesla, Trade Market Access.

The company is actively preparing to debut in the Indian market and is currently selecting a location for a store and, according to government sources, locations for production facilities. Many state governments have expressed a desire to locate Tesla's manufacturing facilities in their respective region.

Tesla has held three rounds of talks with the Ministry for Industries and Mining Government of Maharashtra, according to Indian media outlet Drive Spark. Tesla is reportedly planning to open a showroom in Mumbai to sell cars. The company is also in talks with Tata Power and Adani Electric to deploy a charging network.

Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries and Mining Government of Maharashtra, said Tesla will start production in India, but before that the company plans to showcase six electric vehicle models to gauge consumer response. Thus, we can conclude that first, Model 3, Y, S, X, Cybertruck, and possibly a compact budget car should enter the Indian market first, which could take from two to four years.
