Tesla has hired former SEC lawyer, David Misler, as Managing Legal Counsel Litigation at Tesla. He joined the manufacturer's team last month, after nine years of federal service.
David Misler previously held the position of a trial attorney with the SEC for a little over two years. Thereafter, between 2013 till 2019, he also served as a federal prosecutor focused on fraud and public corruption. Now his path in federal service is over and he has joined Tesla to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
In late October 2021, Misler shared the details of his professional journey on LinkedIn. “Today, a new journey begins. I start at Tesla as a managing counsel for litigation where I will support our important mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy,” he wrote.
Before Misler, the position was held by Todd Maron, Dane Butswinkas, and Jonathan Chang. However, it remained vacant for several months as Tesla was unable to find a worthy candidate for the position.
“Almost nine years ago, I joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C. where I took an oath that I would faithfully represent the United States as its counsel. My federal service ended this past Friday after two years in the Securities and Exchange Commission's trial unit. I have cherished every moment of these past nine years - not just because of the challenging work, but for the amazing people that I met along the way, many of whom have become life-long friends. To all the lawyers, support staff, accountants, law enforcement partners, friends, mentors, and others who helped me along the way, I humbly and sincerely say: Thank you. You made good moments happier and challenging moments easier to overcome.
Today, a new journey begins. I start at #Tesla as a managing counsel for litigation where I will support our important mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. I am excited to join such an innovative and disruptive company and am ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
