Tesla CEO Elon Musk will personally deliver the first Semis on December 1, 2022. With a gradual increase in production, the company intends to reach a production capacity of 50,000 Class A trucks per year in 2024.
Tesla Semi is one of the company's coolest products. This is the first heavy truck developed by the manufacturer and has the potential to disrupt the entire freight transport industry. After years of waiting, the first customer, Pepsi Co., will soon receive delivery of the first Tesla Semis. During the Q3 2022 Earnings Call, CEO Elon Musk said he would personally attend the truck handover ceremony. In addition, he shared other exciting details about the product.
Musk has again confirmed that the Tesla Semi is already in production. According to the Earnings Report, this is happening in Giga Nevada and is just starting to gain momentum. He recalled that production will increase throughout the year before it can become more massive. Musk said that ultimately, Tesla aims to reach a production capacity of 50,000 Semis a year in 2024.
“And we'll be ramping up Semi production through next year. As I think everyone knows at this point, it takes about a year to ramp up production. So, we expect to see significant -- we're tentatively aiming for 50,000 units in 2024 for Tesla Semi in North America. And obviously, we'll expand beyond North America.”
According to the original plan, announced in the summer of 2020, the truck will be built at Giga Texas and no change in plans has been announced at this time. It is expected that once the production of Semi is launched at the Austin factory, the volume of its production will increase significantly, yet the capacity of 50,000 units per year is quite high for the industry.
Musk said Semi does not use 4680 battery cells, so it remains unknown what other battery cell format they use. However, the performance of the truck is really impressive, so it will be very interesting to know all the details of the technologies used in its production. Tesla executives were proud to have achieved an impressive range for the truck of 500 miles while fully loaded.
“Yes, exactly, very important, no sacrifice to cargo capacity, 500-mile range. Just to be clear, 500 miles with the cargo. Yes, 500 miles with the cargo on level ground. Yes, sure. Not up. It's excellent. But the point is, it's a long-range truck and even with heavy cargo. And the number of times people tell, ‘No, you can't -- it's impossible to make a long-range heavy-duty Class A truck.’”
