The launch of Tesla Semi will be a game-changer for the trucking industry. The company has stepped up efforts to bring Semi to market and is now hiring a Commercial Truck Operator to Test it on reliability, performance, and homologation.

According to Tesla's website, the company is looking for a Commercial Truck Operator to perform the Durability Test. The person in this position will work as a member of Tesla's engineering test team to support commercial truck-level testing for reliability, performance, and homologation tests performed in-house and at external test labs. According to the description, the main purpose of this role is "to conduct the execution of truck level tests in accordance with Tesla test procedures."

  • Conduct truck level tests at 3rd party proving grounds according to Tesla test plans and procedures, including but not limited to
  • Specific course-based driving

  • Ensure detailed recording of truck performance discrepancies, analysis of data, documentation and reporting of results through email & database systems
  • Download vehicle data for engineering review
  • Ensure trucks are safe for test activities, and report when issues are observed to lead technicians and engineers
  • Support other engineering activities when priorities require doing so.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral, written, email, and text message instructions
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines

Until this point, it was only known that the company had designed, built, and conducted the standard tests for Semi. However, this is the first time the job description mentions homologation. Homologation is usually one of the last hurdles before a new car model can go on sale. Thus, the driver will have to put Semi through a series of special tests to ensure that the company's truck meets all the requirements. All these tests will then be carried out by trained specialists from certification bodies accredited in the respective country to allow for the sale of Tesla Semi.
