The Californian automaker has had a strained relationship with Singapore. The city-state has not previously supported the development and implementation of electric vehicles. But Tesla's recruitment for new positions in the country hints that the company will soon enter the Singapore market.

In February 2020, the Finance Minister of Singapore said that the city-state plans to follow the lead of other countries and aims to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040, making a bigger bet on electric cars as part of its efforts to cut greenhouse gases and fight climate change.

"Our vision is to phase out ICE and have vehicles run on cleaner energy by 2040," said the Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat, adding that this goal is for "both public health and climate change reasons."

Singapore's electromobility policy has changed. In addition, city-state residents have been asking Tesla CEO Elon Musk for years to make it possible for them to purchase Tesla vehicles. Most likely, these factors greatly influenced Tesla's plans to enter the Singapore market. 

Tesla has announced the hiring of 5 positions: Vehicle Service Technician, Vehicle Readiness Specialist, Parts Advisor, Service Advisor, and Service Manager.

Vehicle Service Technician

"As a Tesla Vehicle Technician you'll be responsible for upholding Tesla's exceptional Service standards. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering an impeccable service experience to each and every Tesla customer while preparing to meet the needs of our Model S, Model X, Model 3 customers, and beyond. This role will be a hands on technical role that will see the workshop numbers scale as we get more products in market."

Vehicle Readiness Specialist

"The Vehicle Readiness Specialist is a key contributor to the Tesla experience by coordinating the receipt of incoming new and used vehicle inventory, preparing vehicles for customers, and working with teammates to find opportunities for continuous improvement and new ways of vehicle readiness. This position is responsible for the high-quality preparation of customer cars, lot management, washing vehicles, and preparing new customer delivery vehicles. Success requires a desire to work quickly and efficiently, be challenged, have a high level of accountability, and a personal satisfaction in doing a great job."

Parts Advisor

"Tesla Motors is looking for an experienced Parts Advisor to work on one of the most progressive vehicle brands in the world. This position requires a significant amount of customer interaction, so the ideal candidate will not only possess the customer service acumen, but also the ability to provide a basic level of technical support service. The role will require travel as needed and directed by management. If you are interested in becoming a part of a world class service team supporting the latest EV technology, we are interested in hearing from you."

Service Advisor

Service Manager

"Tesla's Service Managers are the leaders of our service teams.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering an impeccable service experience to each and every Tesla customer while preparing Tesla Service teams to meet the needs of our Model 3 customers and beyond."

From the looks of it, Tesla is likely looking to set up a store in Singapore where customers can take a test drive, receive vehicle delivery, and have their vehicles repaired or inspected.
