Tesla launches next-generation megapack controls platform—CHIL—crushing the competition. It helps to bring large battery systems into operation, avoiding multi-million dollar losses and project delays.

Tesla continues its advancement in the market for managing large battery systems. The company already has an Autobidder and Powerhub in its arsenal, but now a new product has been announced that will appeal to many projects that are not willing to spend millions of dollars caused by difficulties in launching systems.

Sr. Tesla Staff Product Manager Chris Bowman said the company has launched a new product, CHIL. This is the next-generation Megapack control platform that is “combined with our industry leading controller-hardware-in-the-loop test services (our “CHIL” platform 😎), speeds-up and de-risks deployment of Gigawatt scale battery and hybrid renewable plants,” he wrote. Bowman emphasized that this is important because Tesla's competitors constantly fail when putting the control system into operation. This leads to multimillion-dollar losses and projects delay of 3-4 months.

Bowman pointed out that, unlike the company's competitors who implement “bespoke and un-tested” Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) controls, Tesla's innovative control system engineers productize regionally specific Control Templates (e.g. North America, Australia, etc.), which are tested and approved by CHIL. The manufacturer's approach provides “EPCs with turnkey control solutions that work the first time; and, meet the needs driven by electrical topology of large plants, the interconnection type, and regulations.”
