Tesla held an official presentation of the Model Y in Hong Kong. Deliveries to Hong Kong and Macau will begin in September, the company said.

Tesla began preparations to enter into the market the world's first RHD Model Y in early July and opened an order configurator in Hong Kong. Initially, deliveries of cars will begin in two administrative regions of China with left-hand traffic—Hong Kong and Macau. The first customers will receive their cars in September.

Tesla introduced all three Model Y versions: Standard Range, Long Range, and Performance. The base model, with a range of 455 kilometers, will be the cheapest one-to-one replacement scheme developed by the Hong Kong government and will be available for HK $329,800 ($42,414), South China Morning Post reported. Under the replacement scheme, owners who deregister and scrap their old cars and buy a new electric vehicle can benefit up to HK $287,500.

“EVs currently make up about 3 per cent of Hong Kong’s total registered cars. Tesla wants to expand further in the city and will target the remaining 97 per cent,” said Isabel Fan, the US carmaker’s regional director for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

The Model Y presentation event took place on August 2 at Freespace in the West Kowloon Cultural District. According to InsideEVs, it will feature all five of the company's models: Roadster, Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. Due to the Covid-19 situation, Tesla has scheduled various private viewing sessions with a limited number of visitors so that customers can see Model Y in person while maintaining social distance.

Tesla said that the first Model Ys to be delivered at the end of September will be the Standard Range. Long Range and Performance versions deliveries are scheduled later this year or early 2022.
