Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in Europe in March in the overall car market. Model Y was able to achieve amazing results too and took third place according to data from 27 countries.

Against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the situation in the European car market in March deteriorated significantly. The total number of new car registrations decreased by 19%. However, BEVs and PHEVs set a market share record ahead of diesel vehicles, according to JATO Dynamics’ data for 27 European markets.

While the popularity of combustion engine vehicles continued to decline, registrations of low emission vehicles continued to rise. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have surpassed diesel vehicles with 244,801 new registrations. For BEVs and PHEVs, this corresponds to a volume increase of 10%, while for diesel vehicles, the volume fell by 39%.

In March, BEVs accounted for nearly 62% of all low emission vehicle registrations, with volume up 46%. In contrast, PHEVs posted a 22% decline during the month when 93,100 units were registered. Obviously, Tesla cars played the most important role in the growth of EV indicators.

According to the data, in March, Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in the overall car market in Europe. With 23,013 units registered last month, it surpassed sales of the most popular and more affordable internal combustion engine vehicles. In second place, with 21,026, was Peugeot 208. Another surprise from Tesla was Model Y, which took third place with 18,968 registrations.

Obviously, Tesla cars have also become the best-selling in the EV market, well ahead of their competitors—and, in fact, are completely out of reach. Model 3 was in first place and Model Y, second. Third place went to Fiat 500 with 6,579 registrations.
