Tesla Model Y became the best-selling car in Europe in August. This consolidated the success of the vehicle and it became the best-selling car for the first eight months of 2023. Tesla sold 151,191 Model Ys in Europe, ahead of the Dacia Sandero with 148,080 units sold.

Tesla Model Y sales remain strong across Europe. Preliminary sales data from Dataforce shows that Tesla sold a total of 19,725 electric SUVs in August. This represents a significant increase of 189% from the 6,817 units sold in August last year. This is also significantly higher than the number sold in July 2023.

High demand for Model Y has led to it becoming the best-selling car in Europe for the first eight months of 2023. In fact, 151,191 units were sold in Europe between January and August. This puts Model Y ahead of the Dacia Sandero with 148,080 units sold. VW T-Roc is in third place with 138,302 units. During 2023, Tesla's sales in Europe grew by 198.3%, easily outpacing Sandero and T-Roc, which grew sales by 19.2% and 20.7% respectively.

New car sales in Europe have been strong this year. Peugeot 208 was the only car among the 17 bestsellers to report lower sales in 2023, falling 6.7%. Meanwhile, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have increased significantly. In August, more BEVs were registered than diesel vehicles. In addition, for the first time in history, battery-powered vehicles achieved a market share of more than 20 percent. ACEA said that across all European markets, including EFTA and the UK, the share of electric vehicles was 21.7%.
