Tesla Owners Can Continue to Use Netflix as Before Despite Password Sharing Changes

Tesla owners are not affected by password sharing changes rolled out by Netflix, the company confirmed. This service can still be used in Tesla vehicles worldwide.

Netflix recently rolled out an update to password sharing, making it paid. The company now requires that only family members living in the same household can use the service. If customers want to use Netflix outside their main household, they will have to pay an additional monthly fee, which varies by country.

After that, the owners of Tesla vehicles wondered how this would play out for in-car Netflix usage, as the cars are not always connected to the home Wi-Fi network. To complicate matters, a message appeared in cars reminding users of the terms of use: “A Netflix account is for people who live in the same location.”

In this regard, Tesla North reached out to a Netflix spokesperson for clarification. A company representative confirmed that Tesla owners can still use the streaming service in their cars. Netflix also clarified that Tesla owners are not required to log into their accounts from cars connected to their home Wi-Fi once a month, but can use it in the same way as before.

Netflix, as well as Spotify, YouTube, and Hulu, were added to Tesla vehicles in 2019.
