Tesla sold 77,695 Giga Shanghai-made vehicles in May, up from the same period last year and from April. In the first five months of 2023, Tesla sold 382,859 Chinese-made vehicles, up 77.37% year-over-year.

Tesla sold 77,695 Giga Shanghai vehicles in May, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). This is 2.44% more than the 75,842 cars in April. This is also 141.55% more than the 32,165 vehicles in May last year.

From January to May, Tesla sold 382,859 Chinese-made vehicles, according to CnEVPost. This is 77.37% more than the 215,851 units sold in the same period last year. Here you can clearly see the growth in production at Giga Shanghai, Tesla's main manufacturing hub.

In May, Giga Shanghai began production of Model 3 for Canada. This is the first time in history that Tesla cars made in China have been exported to North America. This presumably ensured that all Model 3s made in the US would be sold in the US and would be eligible for the $7,500 IRA tax credit.

In addition, there have been reports that Giga Shanghai is approaching the start of mass production of the updated Model 3. However, there is no official information on this issue yet.
