The German Transport Minister believes that electric vehicles are the future for the automotive industry and German automakers should accelerate their development and implementation. On this path, Tesla should be a role model for them.
Germany's Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing relies on electric vehicles, unlike his predecessor Andreas Scheuer, who also relied on the use of so-called synthetic fuels (e-fuel). “We must use a variety of energy sources where they are most efficient. In cars, this is an electric drive,” he said in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
“If you look at the EU regulation, you will see that the decision in favor of e-mobility has been taken a long time ago,” Wissing said. “If we force the transition, we will also achieve our climate goals,” he explained. The goal is to have at least 15 million fully electric vehicles registered by 2030 in Germany. However, for this to happen, a lot must change.
Wissing believes that Tesla has achieved a lot in the development and production of electric vehicles, therefore the company can become an example for German automakers. “Tesla has managed to please a lot of buyers with its models, which is what I would like for German car manufacturers,” he said.
