Tesla won a court case in China against a client who slandered the company. Tesla will receive a public apology and compensation for damages in the amount of about $1,400.

Tesla China won a lawsuit against a local car owner, Mr. Wen, who was required to publicly apologize, as well as pay compensation to the company for damaging the brand. Tesla's case against the car owner in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in central China, for damaging its reputation has been decided in favor of the company, according to CnEvPost.

The court ordered the owner to publicly apologize to Tesla by publishing a statement in the newspaper and pay compensation in the amount of RMB10,000 (about $1,400).

In the originally told story, Mr. Wen stated that he was driving his Tesla Model X and his vehicle speed suddenly dropped from 100 km/h (62 mph) to 60 km/h (37 mph). He later said in several media interviews that his car's brakes failed and turned the car into a “suicide toy,” and demanded damages from Tesla. He claimed that, after contacting the company, no one contacted him and his problem remained unresolved.

During the trial, it turned out that the story of Mr. Wen was full of inconsistencies. Evidence provided by Tesla showed that an employee of the company contacted the customer on the day of the vehicle's failure to investigate the situation and request a vehicle inspection. Subsequently, the company contacted him several times about it and the client refused every time.

According to the verdict, Mr. Wen made statements in interviews that were untrue and had a negative impact on Tesla's image.

This is not the first time Tesla has sought justice in defamation cases in China.
