The simplification of manufacturing processes by Tesla for its products continues to take steps forward. The technologies it has now already put Tesla cars out of reach of competitors, but there is room for improvement yet.

Yesterday, Tesla reported on Q2 2022 earnings and the CEO of the company, Elon Musk, joined the call, where he made a number of interesting remarks. Among other things, the head of Tesla spoke about the improvement of production for future car models. He mentioned new manufacturing improvements that are currently being implemented at Tesla's new factories in Berlin and Austin. Through the use of the large castings for Model Y production, the company was able to reduce the number of body welding robots by 70%.

“We made a lot of advancements in manufacturing processes. As we now show in the Shareholder Deck, thanks to the large castings, we make the world's largest castings, we reduced body welding robot count by 70 percent per unit of capacity in Austin and Berlin.”

This gave significant advantages in other aspects as well. Thus, the body shop now occupies about three times less factory space than usual, and car bodies are lighter, cheaper, and have excellent noise, vibration, and harshness, which is “good on every level,” said Musk.

This simplification of manufacturing processes will take it one step further with Tesla Cybertruck, which should begin deliveries in mid-2023, and other future production models that are in development. Unfortunately, no details about future products have been revealed, but one thing is clear, they will be something mind-blowing. Musk said:

“We'll bring a whole new level of simplicity and manufacturing improvements with Cybertruck and future products that we're not quite ready to talk about now, but I think will be very exciting to unveil in the future.”
