Windstar Cruises will add SpaceX Starlink Internet to all its global sea-going vessels

Windstar Cruises will add SpaceX Starlink Maritime Internet to all its global sea-going vessels by mid-2023. It debuted the Starlink service to passengers traveling on the ‘Star Pride’ cruise ship during a recent voyage across the Caribbean. This Spring, Windstar plans to equip its ‘Star Legend’ cruise ship with the satellite internet service, followed by ‘Wind Surf’, ‘Wind Star,’ and ‘Star Breeze’ ships. Its ‘Wind Spirit’ ship will activate the new technology as soon as it’s available where it operates in French Polynesia. Each ship is capable of transporting up to 350 passengers during trips across 50 nations.

Windstar representatives shared that all its sea-going vessels are currently equipped with Anuvu satellite internet and that they decided to also partner with SpaceX to make their connection more reliable with Starlink while navigating. “I am thrilled to be working with Anuvu and Starlink to offer our guests the latest in satellite technology,” said Gregg Wagner, technology director, Windstar Cruises. “When the ships are inside the service area, faster speeds will alleviate much of the frustration felt at peak use times.”

“Starlink is yet to be available worldwide, but Windstar Cruises is excited to be among the first in the cruise industry to offer this cutting-edge technology. The addition of high-speed internet service with our current geostationary satellite service will enable guests to stay connected to family and friends,” they stated in a press release.

SpaceX is rapidly expanding Starlink coverage globally. The company operates around 3,600 Starlink satellites in Low Earth Orbit that serve over one million customers, and it has plans to launch 7,500 upgraded satellites to enhance the broadband network. SpaceX already provides Starlink Maritime service to multiple companies, including major cruise lines – American Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. It also offers its service to people who own a personal boat or yacht. Visit SpaceX’s official Starlink.com website for more information.
