For the construction of its new Gigafactory in the USA, Tesla chose Texas, for which the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has been awarded Business Facilities’ 2020 Deal of the Year Gold Award. The new factory, which will produce Model Y, Cybertruck, and Semi, will create thousands of jobs and improve the economic situation in the state. Texas Governor Greg Abbott shared this good news via Twitter.

“The plant that will build Tesla’s first entry into the truck market was one of the most coveted projects of the year,” said Editor in Chief of Business Facilities’ Jack Rogers. “The Cybertruck assembly plant vaults Austin into the top tier of automotive manufacturing hubs.”

Construction of Giga Texas is progressing very rapidly, and buildings are already growing on the site. The factory should begin with the production of the popular Model Y before the production of Cybertruck and Semi follows. Once Giga Texas starts operating at full capacity, it will create 5,000 jobs.

Several states took part in the competition for the location of Tesla's new Gigafactory, each of which offered very good conditions for the company. However, Texas was able to interest the manufacturer the most, for which the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has been awarded. Along with the location of the Gigafactory in Texas, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also moved to live in the Lone Star State. This could also mean he is sure to have an impressive impact on the development of the state.

Business Facilities (BF) is a national publication that has been the leading location source for corporate site selectors and economic development professionals for more than 50 years.

BF’s 2020 Deal of the Year judges were Howard Silverman, President and CEO, The CAI Global Group; Philip Anderson, President and CEO, P.W. Anderson & Partners; David Hickey, Managing Director, Hickey & Associates; Angelos Angelou, President of Angelou Economics; and Glenn Mair, Director, MMK Consulting.
