America's leading movie theater chain, AMC Entertainment, will begin accepting Bitcoin for ticket payments and discounts. The corresponding systems for this will be developed at the end of 2021.
At a conference call on August 9, the movie theater chain AMC Entertainment made a statement on the acceptance of Bitcoin for ticket payments, which will be able to be bought online. The general director of the company, Adam Aron, said that they will develop IT systems for the reception of cryptocurrencies at the end of 2021.
"We are also in the preliminary stage of now exploring how else AMC can participate in this new burgeoning cryptocurrency universe and we’re quite intrigued by potentially lucrative business opportunities for AMC if we intelligently pursue further serious involvement with cryptocurrency," he said.
AMC did not specify what technology it will use to process payments. The company has 593 cinemas in the U.S. and 335 locations worldwide. Once the integration of Bitcoin payments is successful, the company will begin accepting them not only in the U.S., but also in other locations around the world.
Over the past week, the price of Bitcoin has gone up sharply, having set a monthly maximum of $46,000. This may be due to the fact that more and more companies and investment firms are paying attention to it and tend to turn to it as a means of payment or add it to their portfolios.
