Tesla chose Mexico as the new location for a manufacturing facility. Elon Musk and the President of Mexico will discuss Tesla's investment in the country during a call.
Tesla has chosen Mexico as a location to expand its operations. The manufacturer will build a factory here, although the exact location has not yet been disclosed. In connection with this development, it was said Friday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk will speak with Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador, the country's top diplomat. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said a date for the call between Musk and López Obrador would be announced later Friday afternoon.
Earlier this week, Ebrard met with Rohan Patel, director of business development at Tesla. He shared the news via his Twitter account, announcing the meeting and adding that “good news” would be coming soon (translated from Spanish). The meeting was also attended by Eugenio Grandio, director of the market in Mexico.
The wait for Tesla to set up a manufacturing facility in Mexico has been going on since last October after Elon Musk visited Nuevo León where he met with local officials. In addition, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador indicated last week that Tesla is considering two possibilities to settle in the country: in the north, in Nuevo León, or in the state of Hidalgo, near the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
