Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Wednesday afternoon in Beijing, according to a report. At the moment, the meeting has not been confirmed, but if it really took place, it underlines the importance of the relationship between Tesla and China for both parties.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang in Beijing, a source told Reuters. This was a meeting that was not officially reported, so it is worth considering the information with a grain of salt. The possible meeting would follow meetings with China's commerce and industry ministers and with the foreign minister on Tuesday.

Ding is an important official in China and is ranked sixth on the Politburo Standing Committee, the highest governing body headed by President Xi Jinping. He was previously Xi's chief of staff but was promoted to his current position last year. His current job includes helping Prime Minister Li Qiang run China.

If the meeting between Musk and Ding really took place, this indicates that the country truly values its relationship with Tesla. China is the second largest market for the American manufacturer and home to its largest manufacturing center.
