Under Elon Musk's leadership, Twitter will become a “digital town square” where a wide range of beliefs can be discussed in a healthy, non-violent manner. Twitter will become a platform for dialogue, not hate speech, which is carried out by extremists, and supported by the media.

On Friday, Elon Musk is officially due to complete the deal to buy Twitter and become the owner of the social network. Many people have made various assumptions about Musk's motives, although he made them transparently clear from the start, repeatedly explaining his purpose. Due to the ongoing flow of twisted information demonstrating a deep misunderstanding of Musk's motive for buying Twitter, he posted a message in which he shared his motivation for acquiring it and talked about his attitude towards advertising on the platform.

Musk clarified that the reason he bought Twitter is that, “it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.” He noted that the media is diligently chasing clicks that bring them money, therefore fueling polarized extremes. This is a completely wrong approach, because “the opportunity for dialogue is lost.”

Buying Twitter was extremely difficult. Platform executives have gone to great lengths to make this as difficult as possible by constantly hindering Musk. However, the desire to create a “digital town square” was very strong, because it is extremely important for the development of a reasonable society, ready for dialogue. While this remains incomprehensible to most, Musk, as a man who loves humanity, is ready to fight for it.

“That is why I bought Twitter. I didn't do it because it would be easy. I didn't do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love. And I do so with humility, recognizing that failure in pursuing this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.”

Despite the desire to give everyone freedom of speech, there are still limits, so the new Twitter will comply with the laws of countries. This is necessary, since it is obvious that there are extreme statements and appeals that should not have wide public attention. For example, none of us would like to see calls for a murder that would receive a multimillion audience.

Musk wrote that in addition to complying with laws, the platform “must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.”

The new owner of Twitter wrote about advertising. He explained that if the ad is done right, it “can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you. For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs. Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content!”

Musk said Twitter aims to become the most respected advertising platform in the world, one that strengthens the brand of companies and develops their businesses. He thanked everyone who is collaborating with the platform and encouraged them to build “something extraordinary” together.
