Tesla Giga Shanghai aims to reach pre-quarantine production level this week. The manufacturer's note states that it is currently producing 1,000 vehicles per day and is aiming for 16,000 units per week.

Tesla plans to restore production at Giga Shanghai to the level at which it was operating before the city closed due to COVID-19, according to an internal factory memo seen by Reuters. In it, the manufacturer outlined a detailed recovery plan. Tesla expects more than double its daily output to 2,600 electric vehicles from Tuesday, according to Reuters. So, on Monday, the factory produced 1,000 cars, but plans to increase the weekly volume to 16,000. Reuters wrote:

“Tesla will more than double its daily output to 2,600 electric vehicles at its Shanghai plant from Tuesday, according to the memo detailing the plan. That compares to around 1,000 EVs produced on Monday, according to the memo, and would bring Tesla's weekly output to nearly 16,000 units, the memo showed.”

Returning production to the pre-quarantine level is now a very difficult task. Due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by Shanghai, not all workers can return to work, and those who can are working in a closed-loop production system. This applies to absolutely all enterprises that have returned to production. That is why the industry has faced problems with the supply of components for production. A shortage of workers, shipping issues, and limited supplies of parts are hindering a quick recovery, but should fade soon as restrictions continue to ease in Shanghai.
