The Republic of Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development & Transport meets Elon Musk to discuss SpaceX Starlink connectivity

The Republic of Azerbaijan looks forward to providing high-quality internet access to the most remote places across the country. The Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, recently traveled to the United States to meet with Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla. They met at the Tesla Gigafactory Texas headquarters in Austin. Minister Nabiyev took to his social media accounts to share the significant details of the encounter.

During the meeting, Minister Nabiyev and Mr. Musk delved into discussions concerning the forthcoming initiatives of the Starlink satellite internet service within their nation planned for 2023. Expressing his thoughts on the meeting, Minister Nabiyev stated, "We exchanged views on the planned activities of the Starlink satellite internet service in our country this year, the launch of satellites belonging to our country, as well as the International Astronautical Congress to be hosted by Baku in October of this year," he wrote via Facebook (all quotes were translated to English).

This encounter between Minister Nabiyev and Mr. Musk signifies a significant stride towards advancing satellite internet technology and space exploration efforts in the region. The dialogue underscores the growing collaboration between government entities and private enterprises in harnessing the potential of cutting-edge technologies for the benefit of their country and beyond. 

As of today, SpaceX's Starlink satellite constellation consists of around 4,597 satellites operating in Low Earth Orbit that provide internet access to over 1.5 million subscribers globally. The company is launching satellites on a weekly basis, with plans of operating a constellation with a total of 12,000 satellites in the years to come.
