Given the current global crisis, Tesla may have made a wise decision to postpone Battery Day. Events that could attract groups of people would not be ideal during this time. Many public gatherings have been either canceled or delayed due to the pandemic.
Tesla Battery Day was one of the most exciting events for Tesla and its supportive community this year. The EV automaker was expected to unveil its latest technological discoveries and improvements to Tesla's battery and powertrain during the event.
Elon Musk teased the event during Tesla’s Q4 2019 Earnings Call. “I said we’re going to do kind of like a Battery Day just to kind of explain more about [battery production capacity] and what our plans are,” he said.

Musk also stated, “I think probably it’s going to make sense to do that after the end of this quarter because I think it’s going to be kind of an intense end of [the] quarter as it was last quarter. So tentatively sort of in the April timeframe, we will do a Battery Day and kind of go through what the challenges are, how do you get from here to, I don’t know a couple of thousand gigawatt hours a year or something.”
Battery Day was slated to be a big event for Tesla because the company’s battery technology and its improvements affect the EV automaker’s upcoming vehicle production plans. For instance, more information about Tesla’s Plaid Model S could have been divulged during the event since the company was also supposed to share details about the Plaid powertrain.
Also, at the beginning of 2020, news broke that Tesla would be using a cobalt-free battery from CATL, the battery supplier for Giga Shanghai’s MIC Model 3 SR+. More information was supposed to be shared about Tesla’s cobalt-free battery during Battery Day.

Regardless of its postponement, Tesla Battery day will happen. After all, it is an important event for the company, its supporters, and investors. Battery Day will reveal how much the company improved over the years and where it could go in the future.
For now, Tesla is taking the necessary safety precautions to protects its employees and supporters. The Tesla community will just have to wait Battery Day a little bit longer.
