Breaking: Mass Tesla MIC Model 3 Deliveries to Begin on 1Yr Anniversary of Gigafactory 3’s Groundbreaking Ceremony

Tesla China has officially announced that MIC Model 3 deliveries will kick off on January 7. This is a momentous occasion for Gigafactory 3, since Elon Musk traveled to China for its ground-breaking around the same time in 2019. January 7 will mark a year since Musk broke ground on the Shanghai factory.

According to Reuters, an event will be held in Gigafactory 3 for the mass Model 3 deliveries. Gigafactory 3 has been prepping for mass delivery across China since it received its sales and distribution license. Many car carriers have been seen coming and leaving the site of Tesla’s Shanghai facility since early December.

Currently, Gigfactory 3 is producing 280 units a day. According to Tesla executives, all the MIC Model 3 units that have been made and will be produced are already sold. Gigafactory 3 will be trying to increase its production output for 2020 to meet the MIC Model 3's high demand in China.

Tesla China has been strongly hinting at deliveries since Christmas Eve when it posted a holiday greeting on Twitter. The post teased that the locally-made sedan would be delivered to customers soon.

In late December, photos of Gigafactory 3 revealed that tons of MIC Model 3’s were on stand by, waiting to be delivered to reservation holders. The only question that remained then was when MIC Model 3 deliveries would start.

On December 30, Tesla China held a ceremonial MIC Model 3 delivery event. A few GF3 employees were the first to receive the locally-made Tesla sedan. One of them even used his newly minted China-made Model 3 to propose.

On New Year’s Eve, Grace Tao announced that Tesla China’s delivery staff would be contacting Model 3 reservation holders for details on their handovers. On January 7, MIC Model 3 deliveries will officially be delivered to reservation holders, marking the beginning of Gigafactory 3’s contributions to Tesla.

Tesla MIC Model 3 owners will benefit from purchase tax exemptions and government incentives. The purchase tax exemptions may reduce the price of the locally made sedan by 10 percent. Meanwhile, the government incentives could decrease the price even more by a significant value as well.
