June will be a very productive month for Giga Shanghai as the factory's capacity utilization has recovered to 100%, according to Tesla China. Adding more shifts to existing capacity will ensure high productivity in the future.

Tesla's Shanghai factory has already returned to full production capacity, Shanghai Securities News reported, citing Tesla China comments. The team said the factory's capacity utilization rate has recovered to 100%, following a three-week lockdown and a 40-day production recovery under limited and difficult conditions.

Prior to the COVID-19 lockdown, Giga Shanghai operated three shifts, 24 hours a day. The weekly output was about 20,000 units or about 2,860 Model 3 and Model Y units per day. The factory's capacity utilization rate of up to 100% suggests that the factory can already produce around 2,860 vehicles a day, but improvement lies ahead. According to the South China Morning Post, Tesla plans to add additional shifts to the existing facility to make up for production losses in April and May. In addition, after exiting the closed-loop system on June 11, the expansion of the factory will begin, which will add a production capacity of 450,000 vehicles per year.

After production resumed on April 19 and until the end of May, more than 40,000 vehicles rolled off the production line, 32,165 of which were sold in May. Thus, in the five months of 2022, Tesla delivered 215,851 vehicles, more than 50% more than last year. Deliveries from Giga Shanghai in 2021 amounted to 484,130 vehicles, which corresponds to 51.7% of Tesla's global deliveries.
