Tesla is paving the way for future development by registering a new trademark. It will be used for various types of motors not for land vehicles, such as airplanes and boats.

Tesla is a dynamically developing company that operates in a wide range of different areas. The manufacturer's developments have already allowed it to revolutionize in several areas and it seems that several more disruptions may soon occur. At the end of December 2022, Tesla filed a trademark application for various types of electric motors that are used not for land vehicles, @BMT094/Twitter shared. In the list in the application, you can find motors for airplanes, boats, and toys. The application states that the trademark is intended to cover:

“Asynchronous motors not for land vehicles; Motors for airplanes; Motors, namely, synchronous motors not for land vehicles; Permanent magnet motors; Boat motors; Drive system having two or more synchronous motors coupled through clutches to drive a common load; Electric motors for toys; Linear motors.”

While Tesla does not currently manufacture motors for non-land vehicles, the trademark filing hints that the company has a development plan in this direction. Elon Musk stated in 2019 that battery-powered flight would require energy density of at least 400KWh/Kg and its development may not be far off. Tesla is one of the largest battery manufacturers in the world and is taking an increasingly vertically integrated approach. Competencies include cell architecture/design, materials, chemistry, supply chain, software, thermal, BMS, and other capabilities. Tesla vehicles demonstrate industry-leading energy density in gravimetric and volumetric terms for high volume automotive-grade production. Tesla designs and manufactures its own cells and is pioneering next-gen manufacturing technology to achieve industry-leading output from its Giga factories with the company targeting several TWh of battery capacity by 2030.
