Tesla is continuing to test its latest FSD Beta, which began distribution in October 2020. The company has so far expanded it to around 2,000 owners and plans to further increase the number of testers in April. However, inattentive drivers who did not pay enough attention to the road during testing were excluded from the program, underscoring how seriously Tesla takes product testing.
On March 6, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced via Twitter that with the recent release of FSD Beta version 8.2, the number of beta testers will be doubled, and with version 8.3, the number of testers is likely to increase 10-fold. He also asked everyone who wants to participate to send a request to the company so that it would know about the desire of Tesla owners to take part in beta testing.
Musk later said that, for convenience, a “Download Beta” button would appear on car displays, clicking on which would mean that the owner agreed to the testing conditions, and FSD Beta would be loaded into his/her car.
To date, the number of testers has doubled from the 1,000 that Musk mentioned during the Q4 2020 Earnings Call. Yesterday, via Twitter he confirmed that FSD Beta has already expanded to around 2,000 owners. Musk also said that the next release will be in April, apparently, he is talking about version 8.3, which will expand FSD Beta by 10X.
FSD Beta has now been expanded to ~2000 owners & we’ve also revoked beta where drivers did not pay sufficient attention to the road. No accidents to date.

Next significant release will be in April. Going with pure vision — not even using radar. This is the way to real-world AI.
The head of the company also said that some testers were deprived of the right to participate in the beta testing program due to the fact that they were not attentive enough while driving. Full and even increased attention of testers is the main condition and carries a very big responsibility. That is why anyone who breaks this rule will not be able to continue to participate in testing, which is fair. Musk reported that to date, not a single incident has occurred with the participation of FSD Beta; this demonstrates the advanced nature of the software, responsible behavior of program participants, and high-quality control by Tesla.
