Tesla Giga Berlin has begun preparations for a massive deployment of solar panels on the factory roof. The company is committed to using sustainable energy to produce environmentally friendly vehicles.
Tesla has always wanted to help the world to expedite from a mine-and-burn hydrocarbon economy towards a solar electric economy. When building new factories, the manufacturer planned to install solar panels to power them with electricity. So the solar panels continue to cover Giga Nevada and Giga Texas and have made good progress there. The first installations at Giga Berlin were seen in April 2022 when 13 rows were installed with 60-68 solar panels in each row, which was great news.
On Saturday, @wolfpackberlin/Twitter, who observes the construction of Giga Berlin, shared some great photos showing the development of the factory. It could be seen that the company continues to install solar panels on the roof. Notable is the fact that Tesla is preparing almost the entire roof surface of Giga Berlin for future installation. So the fasteners and structures that will hold the solar panels are installed over almost the entire Body in White Shop and Casting Shop.

Although we do not know the characteristics of solar panels, this number looks impressive and can certainly supply a large amount of electricity to the Giga Berlin electrical grid. At the moment, no energy storage has been installed outside, so it can be assumed that the solar panels will power the factory during the day. However, when Giga Berlin was in the equipment installation phase, at least one Powerpack was spotted near the building. It could also indicate that Tesla may have or plan to deploy batteries in the future to at least partially power the factory even at night, during the third shift.
Tesla planned Giga Berlin from the very beginning as a sustainable factory, powered by solar energy and windmills, which are located relatively close to the factory. The manufacturer stated: “Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg will have a solar roof and aims to use renewable electricity to help Germany and Brandenburg achieve its ambition ‘Energiewende’ objectives.” At the moment, everything indicates that Tesla is acting according to a predetermined plan and making Giga Berlin a sustainable enterprise.
