The water company Strausberg Erkner bought the land to install a sewage treatment plant that will serve Tesla Giga Berlin, among others. The construction of an industrial wastewater treatment plant has long been planned for the manufacturer and the adjacent industrial zone.
The water company, Strausberg Erkner (WSE), has entered into a contract with Landesbetrieb Forst for the purchase of an area in Freienbrink. The Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment has confirmed this to RBB24. The long-planned industrial wastewater treatment plant is to be built on a plot of about ten hectares in the Grünheide (Oder-Spree) area. The plant will process wastewater from Tesla and other businesses that are located in the industrial area.
A possible location for the installation of treatment facilities has been discussed for a long time. However, at the end of last year, negotiations stalled. The WSE was unwilling to pay the price the state demanded. Therefore, in August 2021, the association withdrew the planning contract, which the WSE had already put up for auction.
However, new information indicates that the issue has begun to move forward. An area of about ten hectares has been discussed for a long time, but the choice of location attracted criticism. Therefore, the Ministry of the Environment is also studying an alternative to the pressurized sewer line of the wastewater treatment plant in Wasmannsdorf, Schönefeld district. While the exploration is still pending, WSE cannot begin preparations for the installation of a wastewater treatment plant in Freienbrink. The sale and purchase agreement between the water association and the state needs to be confirmed by the budget committee.
