Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in Germany in December 2022, once again showing its strength. Model Y finished the month in third place, competing with previously popular local petrol cars.

The German car market by the end of 2022 was in an active state. According to the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamtes (KBA), 314,318 passenger cars were registered in December 2022, +38.1 percent more than in December 2021. At the end of the year, the share of passenger cars with a gasoline engine amounted to 32.6%, which is 37.1% lower than in the previous year; the share of passenger cars with a diesel engine was 17.8%, down 20% from last year. The share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) was 17.7%, which corresponds to an increase of 32.2%, which is mainly due to Tesla, whose sales grew by 76.2% year on year.

However, undeniable success in the electric vehicle market is not Tesla's only achievement. According to the data, Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in the German car market in December 2022 with 9,566 units, up 56.9% from the same period in 2021. Just behind it is Fiat 500 with 9,288 sales. In third place, with 7,382 units, is Tesla Model Y, which also became the best-selling SUV in December in the country. Volkswagen ID.3 is in fourth place with 6,865 units sold. Volkswagen Tiguan rounds out the top 5 with 6,756 units.
