Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling car in the mid-size segment in Europe in September, further emphasizing the fact that the company's vehicles are supplanting cars with an internal combustion engine.
According to JATO Dynamic data for September 2020, Tesla has registered 15,787 Model 3s in Europe. It should be noted that, according to the data of EV-Sales, 16,125 units were registered in September. Nevertheless, despite the difference in different sources, Model 3 becomes the best-selling car in the segment. In second place is the Volkswagen Passat with 9,591 registered units. Closing out the Top 3 is the BMW 3-Series with 9,146.
In September 2020, for the first time in European history, the number of electrified vehicle registrations exceeded diesel registrations, JATO reports. One out of four newly registered vehicles in Europe was a plug-in.
In 2020, registrations of internal combustion engine vehicles in Europe fell by a staggering 29% to 8.54 million units. According to the data, the region is readying for an electric revolution. JATO data for 27 markets in Europe show that the total number of electrified vehicles registered in September was higher than the number of diesel vehicle registrations. This achievement indicates significant changes are afoot.
Electric vehicle volume increased 139% to 327,800, a record in both volume and market share. This is the first time that electric vehicles have crossed the 300,000 unit per month mark and only the second time when they have accounted for more than 20% of registrations. Tesla remains the leader in this all-electric charge forward.
