Tesla Model Y became Sweden's best-selling car in Q1 2023. The electric car continues to lead the way, outperforming petrol competitors, even though the incentives for buying electric cars have been eliminated.

Statistics from Mobility Sweden showed that Tesla Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in all categories—both fossil fuel vehicles and electric vehicles. The Texan manufacturer's car displaced Volvo XC40 as the top-selling car model in Sweden. Tesla is also the automotive brand that sold the most electric vehicles in Q1 2023 in the country.

The success of Model Y comes even as government subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles have been eliminated. It is obvious that the policy of reducing the prices of Tesla cars contributed to the growth of consumer interest. At the same time, the production at Giga Berlin ensured fast delivery of ordered vehicles.

During the first quarter, 3,610 Tesla Model Y vehicles were registered in Sweden. It is worth noting that according to EU-EVs, their number reached 3,783. Despite the difference, this did not affect the final result. The closest competitor, Volvo XC40, sold 3,283 vehicles, including all types of powertrains. Of these, 2,747 were electric vehicles. Volvo is also in third place with its XC60. In fourth place is VW ID.4, followed by Volvo S/v60.

Electric vehicles ranked three places in the top 5 best-selling cars in Sweden in Q1 2023, which is really impressive. The list of leaders in EV sales is as follows:

  1. Tesla Model Y: 3,610
  2. Volvo XC40: 2,747
  3. VW ID.4: 1,892
  4. EV6: 1,288
  5. Tesla Model 3: 1,005
