Tesla Model Y became the best-selling imported car in South Korea in August 2022, standing up to its gasoline competitors. Tesla Model 3 became sixth in the overall ranking. Only two models of the manufacturer provided a third place for the brand in the country's automotive market.

According to Kaizuyu Research Data Center released on September 2, 2022, the number of new registered imported passenger cars in August is 26,031 units. This is 9.6% more than in this period last year, which was the first positive growth in the last 11 months.

The data showed that Tesla Model Y became a bestseller in South Korea in August 2022, competing with gasoline cars from the most popular brands. Model Y sold 2,130 units last month, up 224 units from its closest competitor, Mercedes-Benz E-Class with 1,906 units. In third place was BMW 5 Series with 1,670 sales. Mercedes-Benz S-Class took fourth place with 1,574 sales. Closing out the top five was Audi A6 with 1,035 sales. Just slightly behind, was Tesla Model 3 with 1,023 registrations. Because the Model 3 production line at Giga Shanghai was closed for half of July and the first week of August, the final sales figures were affected.

Model Y and Model 3 sales totaled 3,153 units. Despite the fact that Tesla only sells two car models, this did not stop the brand from taking third place on the list. It is worth bearing in mind that, for example, BMW, which won first place, sold more than 14 models in South Korea, so Tesla's success with only two models is obvious.
