Tesla Model 3 became the second best-selling car in Taiwan in August, hitting a new monthly high in the country. Sales of only one model in Taiwan's market brought the manufacturer sixth place in the overall ranking of the most successful brands in the country.
Tesla Model 3 shone in the Taiwanese market in August 2022. The luxury sedan was a terrific competitor to gasoline-powered dinosaurs and became the second best-selling car in the automotive market. Tesla sold 1,774 Model 3s, second only to Toyota Corolla Cross, with 3,216 registrations. It is still quite a big gap, but it can be closed in a relatively short amount of time, especially once Model Y deliveries begin. In third place is Toyota Corolla Altis with 1,321 sales.
Strong sales of Model 3 not only earned it the title of the second best-selling car in the country, but also sealed a new record of its own. At 1,774 registrations, Tesla broke the previous record of 1,655 units registered in May. As of the end of August, Model 3 already has 6,327 vehicles for the entire year. This means that in 2022, Tesla has already surpassed its own sales for all of 2021. Local experts expect several thousand more vehicles to be delivered by the end of the year, bringing the total to between 8,000 and 10,000 units.
Obviously, Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling electric car. Judging by the sales data, the Taiwanese are really interested in buying only the Tesla electric car. Model 3's closest competitor, BMW iX, has only a modest 69 sales. The gap is huge, and only highlights the fact that manufacturers need to scale up their efforts in producing EVs in order for them to become really hotly desired.
