Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today that Elon Musk will make significant investments in the country through Tesla and SpaceХ. According to him, this will create tens of thousands of skilled jobs.

On Friday, a virtual meeting took place between Elon Musk and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It was announced last week and was supposed to be about the possibility of Tesla investing in Malaysia. The virtual meeting lasted about 25 minutes. It was also attended by Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister made interesting remarks confirming Musk's intention to invest in the country.

Anwar said that the cooperation discussed during the meeting will create tens of thousands of skilled jobs in the country. While this likely includes an assessment of both direct and indirect jobs, it still hints at a very significant investment, possibly related to production. The prime minister also stressed that the investment would be large and said that Musk had agreed to open Tesla's headquarters in Cyberjaya.

In addition to Tesla's investment, Musk also agreed to partner with his other company, SpaceX. In particular, its Starlink division. Three local companies will be involved in this collaboration, according to Business Today.

“Musk also agreed to collaborate with the government, involving his company, SpaceX, the satellite internet service Starlink, and electric vehicles (EV),” Anwar said. “In fact, three Malaysian companies will also be involved in the project with SpaceX. During the meeting, Musk also expressed intention to visit Malaysia soon,” he continued.

“On Starlink (satellite services), which involve internet access and connectivity, we agree that this collaboration will provide affordable direct internet access to rural areas, schools, and universities,” said Anwar. “In fact, in this regard (Starlink satellite services), he (Musk) affirmed that priority will be given to Malaysia,” he added.
