  • The Tesla brand attracted the most attention from consumers in Germany in Q3, a study shows.
  • Local Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi together attracted as much attention as Tesla alone could.

Tesla's popularity in Germany continues to grow. Selling just four car models, the brand has a 13.3% share of the EV market this year, and its Model Y is the best-selling electric car and is at one of the top spots of overall sales rankings in 2023. While not everyone can afford to buy the company's car, the brand still attracts unprecedented attention from Germans.

According to current estimates, the American manufacturer is still the clear leader in German online media when it comes to electric vehicles. Here, in the third quarter of 2023, Tesla received more than 821,000 user reactions online, significantly more than its German competitors, Automobilwoche reports. For comparison, during the same period, Volkswagen received 355,000 user reactions, BMW 192,000, Mercedes-Benz 163,000 and Audi 131,000. None of them could keep up with Tesla, and only all of them together attracted as many reactions as Tesla alone.

The results were obtained as part of an innovation ranking with a focus on electromobility created by Unicepta for the industry portal. The media service analyzed the innovative image of 90 car manufacturers and suppliers in German online media, as well as on X and YouTube in the third quarter. The decisive factor is user reactions such as comments, likes, and shares.

After Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, BYD received the most attention. In the third quarter, the Chinese brand received nearly 100,000 user reactions. The top 10 is followed by Porsche with 81,226 user reactions, Hyundai with 66,383, Opel with 58,676, and Ford with 57,882.
