Tesla Model Y took first place in Spain, becoming the best-selling electric car in the country in the first four months of 2023. The position of the car is so strong that its sales are twice the sales of its nearest competitor.

Tesla Model Y has become the top choice for many Europeans. Spain has become one of the countries where consumers have welcomed the electric SUV with special affection. According to the results of the first four months of 2023, Model Y became the best-selling EV. According to the data, 1,870 units were sold during this time, which is almost double the sales of the closest competitor. This difference underscores the Spanish preference for the American manufacturer's cars, especially as their prices were cut significantly in Q1 of the year.

Such a high sales result is also made possible by the fact that the cars are now produced in Europe. Giga Berlin produces over 5,000 Model Ys per week, flooding the European market. In addition, the proximity of the factory allows the company to deliver cars very quickly. Therefore, sales can occur gradually, throughout all months, regardless of whether it is the beginning or end of the quarter. Previously, when cars were delivered only from China or the US, deliveries typically fell in the second half of each quarter.

The second best-selling EV in Spain from January to April (inclusive) was the British MG MG4 with 961 units. Just slightly behind, Fiat 500E is in third place with 933 units sold. Citroen E-C4 is in fourth place with 815 sales. Closing out the top 5 is Dasia Spring with 785 units. Tesla Model 3 is in 10th place with 414 sales. Volkswagen cars are not popular in Spain. ID.BUZZ has the best result among siblings there with 278 units in 19th place.

In four months of 2023, Tesla, which sells only four car models, has taken 14% of the EV market share in Spain. The leader at the moment is Stellantis, a corporation with 14 different brands, with a 28.1% share of the EV market.
