Tesla Model Y has joined New York City's fleet of yellow cabs for the first time ever. The Texas-based manufacturer's car will hit the streets by app-based taxi operator Gravity Mobility.

Tesla Model Y has joined New York City's fleet of yellow cabs operated by Gravity Mobility, HT Auto Desk reports. The car is now cleared under an EV pilot program approved by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission and will be Tesla's second yellow cab in the city, following Model 3. Gravity Mobility says this is the first time that Model Y has been used as a New York City yellow cab taxi.

Moshe Cohen, Founder and CEO of Gravity, said, “This is another great news for Gravity as we reinvent what it means to travel by taxi in the world’s greatest city. The Model Y was the first Tesla to truly live up to all of our expectations for a quality taxi ride. New Yorkers and visitors alike will be able to ride in one of the most advanced vehicles ever produced, with Gravity’s own customization features providing a first-class experience for standard taxi fares.”

Gravity Mobility is an app-based taxi starter that also makes charging devices. The company claims its charger is designed to outperform Tesla's superchargers, providing compatibility for a wide range of models to charge in minutes.
