Tesla opens some Supercharger stations for non-Tesla EVs in mainland China. The program will only start at select locations where only certain non-Tesla EVs will be able to charge, according to a company announcement.

China is a huge market for Tesla and the number of its car owners is constantly growing there. In this regard, the number of Superchargers is also growing rapidly here. Today, about 33% of all existing Supercharger stations are located there. Particularly rapid growth has occurred in recent months, as China accounted for only 25% of them in November 2022.

Such a rapid increase in the number of Superchargers was probably a preparatory stage. On Tuesday, Tesla announced that its Supercharger network is now open to non-Tesla electric vehicles in mainland China. The company clarified that, for now, these are only select locations where only certain non-Tesla EVs will be able to charge. Restrictions are mandatory, as the company must first test expansion in such a way that the company's customers do not feel impacted due to an excessive workload at Superchargers.

Tesla launched the non-Tesla Supercharger pilot program in 2021, starting in Europe. Today, Tesla offers charging at its branded charging stations for all EVs in most countries in the region. Recently, the company also introduced the V4 Supercharger, which takes into account the features for charging non-Tesla electric vehicles. The first one was installed in the Netherlands and the company has promised to expand to other countries. In the US, the company has installed Magic Docks on some Superchargers that also allow non-Tesla EVs to be charged. The opening of Superchargers in China was the next step for the company in order to actively support the spread of electric vehicles around the world.
