Tesla will soon announce a new location in Mexico, the country's Foreign Affairs Minister said. The government is working with the manufacturer to help it choose a suitable site.

It seems that Mexico could be announced as the new location for Tesla's sixth car factory. Mexico's Foreign Affairs Minister Marcelo Ebrard said he expects this to happen soon. Meanwhile, Mexico is working to expand its infrastructure and renewable energy supplies to take advantage of the company relocation boom.

For now, the country's government is working with Tesla to help it find a location to open a manufacturing plant in Mexico. The company has already reviewed several locations, Ebrard said, declining to provide details of the project.

“What I would think is that we’re very close to have this announcement by Tesla, but I don’t have an exact date yet,” he said during an interview with BNN Bloomberg. “They will make their announcement. We can't announce it."

Mexico pledged to cut its carbon emissions by 35% by 2030 during a UN convention on climate change in November alongside US special presidential envoy John Kerry. If Tesla builds a factory there, then this will stimulate sales of electric vehicles in the domestic market, which will also play an important role in achieving this goal.

Mexico, especially its northern states, is a favorite destination for companies looking to relocate operations from China closer to the US. Many Tesla suppliers are already located or planning to settle here. In addition, a manufacturing facility in Mexico has other advantages, including proximity to the US and cheaper labor costs.
