The Tesla VPP in California once again supported the state's power grid during an event due to heat. The result showed that more than 3,500 Powerwalls provided up to 24 MW of power to support the grid.

California is now experiencing a noticeable increase in temperature, which entails increased energy consumption. Peak hours are especially challenging when the grid is at its highest due to increased demand and limited power supply. In this situation, the Tesla VPP came to help again, and thousands of Powerwall owners supported the state's power grid.

On August 31, Powerwall owners from California once again took part in the event. According to Lastbulb, 2,793 homes from the PG&E VPP and 742 homes from the SoCal Edison VPP were there. That means over 3,500 households are already participating to stabilize the state's power grid, and further expansion is likely just around the corner. In this event, VPPs provided up to 24 MW of power to support the grid. This was the second California event in which the Tesla VPP helped to stabilize the state's power grid. The first happened on August 17, when the Tesla VPP again came to the rescue.

It should be kept in mind that the participation of members is not mandatory. Once notified, owners can make their choice to participate. They each have the option to opt-out if they need the full capacity of their Powerwall or for other reasons, as well as to make personal settings, such as reserving certain power for their own needs.

Tesla is committed to building the world's largest distributed battery that will keep California's power supply clean and reliable, and therefore continues to roll out its efforts to help the state. As part of the Tesla VPP, attendees receive $2 for each additional kWh that their Powerwall delivers during an event.
