Recent rumors that Tesla acquired troubled Chinese automaker Zotye to take advantage of its manufacturing facilities have been debunked, with documents allegedly confirming the relationship being declared by Vice President of Tesla Global Grace Tao, as a fake.
Tesla continues its drive to expand manufacturing capacity by actively building new factories and expanding existing ones. The manufacturer's factory in China was particularly successful, reaching the production capacity of the Fremont factory in just two years of operation. This became the basis for the circulation of rumors that Tesla was looking for an opportunity to build a second factory in China and even chose the location for it. Although this rumor has been dispelled, efforts by unknown person(s) to spread such information have continued.
Recently there were rumors that Tesla bought the bankrupt Chinese automaker Zotye. This information was even backed up by a document where Tesla's management signature and seal could be seen. However, this is not true, and the signature and seal were forged, which could be a crime, the Vice President of Tesla Global Grace Tao said on Weibo.
Tao shared a document dated February 18, which indicates that Zotye promised market regulators in Zhejiang province that it would quickly complete the necessary approval processes after obtaining a business license. The document was allegedly signed by Tesla VP of Greater China Tom Zhu and stamped by Tesla Shanghai. In response to one of the comments on Weibo, Tao wrote that this information is a blatant lie. She said that due to the current situation, Tesla will report the case to the public safety authorities, and urged Internet users to resist false online rumors.
