Mississippi Power and Southern Company have announced a partnership to build the world's first solar Tesla smart neighborhood in Lauderdale County. The area will be the first in the world to feature Tesla Solar Roofs.
In addition to Tesla's exclusive Solar Roof, the homes will also be equipped with Powerwall batteries, energy-efficient equipment, appliances, and smart home automation systems, PRNewswire reported.
"Mississippi Power uses the most advanced technologies to offer creative energy solutions that make our customers' lives easier every day," Mississippi Power President and CEO Anthony Wilson said. "This smart neighborhood is designed to simplify homeowners' lives and give them more control over their home and energy use."
In the summer of 2020, Mississippi Power and Tesla installed the state's first Solar Roof at Habitat for Humanity in Hattiesburg. The roof was installed by Cross Roofing, a Tesla certified installer, in less than three days. Mississippi Power is using data gathered from this home to investigate the performance of Tesla's Solar Roof in southeastern Mississippi.
"Mississippi Power employees have volunteered on numerous Habitat for Humanity home builds across our service territory over the years," Mississippi Power Vice President of Customer Service and Operations Fran Forehand said. "This was a natural partnership with Habitat that provides the added benefit of studying how an innovative technology can best serve our customers."
The Enzor Place, in its Phase 1 project, will have approximately 45 homes. This will be further expanded to 100-150. Construction is scheduled to begin early 2021.
