Elon Musk met with the president of France to discuss green investment policy. Musk also spoke at Choose France Summit on Monday.

Emmanuel Macron told Elon Musk that France is a leading center for foreign investment and electric cars. The French president aims to attract global businesses to the country. Macron tweeted that they talked about France's attractiveness and significant progress in electric cars, energy, and digital regulation. He stressed that he has “so much to do together” with Musk. Macron and Musk discussed the prospects for electric cars and energy on Monday at the presidential palace. Their meeting lasted about 45 minutes.

Macron and Musk also discussed European and French reactions to U.S. President Joe Biden's green subsidy plan, known as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The act, which offers incentives for manufacturers in North America, has become a point of contention between the U.S. and the European Union. Brussels believes that certain aspects of the bill unfairly discriminate against European companies.

The president and Musk met on the sidelines of a gathering of about 200 global business leaders that Macron invited. He seeks to demonstrate his ability to attract foreign investment. The president and Musk met again Monday afternoon with other business leaders whom the president had invited to Versailles for a round table and dinner.
