SpaceX Starlink and Jumia Join Forces to Expand Satellite Broadband Services in Africa

SpaceX Starlink and Jumia Technologies AG, an e-commerce platform, join forces to revolutionize satellite broadband services in Africa. This strategic partnership is set to bring high-speed internet access to underserved regions in the continent.

Jumia Technologies AG, which counts prominent investors like Pernod Ricard SA and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., has set its sights on becoming the primary distributor of Starlink's satellite terminals and kits in select African countries. The initial launch of this collaboration is scheduled to take place in Nigeria in the upcoming weeks, Jumia's Chief Commercial Officer Hisham El Gabry told Nairmetrics reporters.

Jumia's already established presence and influence in the African e-commerce market make it a natural choice for this exclusive sales and distribution arrangement. Individuals interested in accessing Starlink's cutting-edge satellite internet technology will soon have a go-to destination in Jumia. This exclusivity in sales and distribution firmly positions Jumia as a key player in the satellite broadband sector, giving the company a competitive edge and potentially boosting its market share and influence within the region.

Hisham El Gabry shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We have seen Starlink do these types of deals in Southeast Asia and South America, and now Africa will also have the opportunity to access fast-speed internet services." He went on to explain that the plan is to commence sales through Jumia's websites and agents in Nigeria this month and subsequently expand to Kenya.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Africa, offering the promise of high-speed internet access to remote and underserved areas. As Starlink's services become more accessible in Nigeria and Kenya, it holds the potential to revolutionize how people connect and access information across the African continent.
