SpaceX is in the process of building the world’s largest satellite internet infrastructure to connect users in rural and remote areas globally. The Starlink constellation will have 12,000 internet-beaming satellites. To date, the company has launched approximately 1,737 Starlink satellites. SpaceX is already providing beta internet service in portions of the United States and abroad. Most recently, the company rolled out Starlink beta internet service in rural regions located in Europe, including: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

On June 2nd, SpaceX registered Starlink as an internet service provider in the Republic of Lithuania, according to a report by LRT.It. The Lithuanian Transport Minister Marius Skuodis says that the registration will enable SpaceX to begin beaming Starlink’s signal in the country. “I can confirm that actions are being done so that Starlink could begin offering services in Lithuania,” Skuodis told LRT.It reporters. Skuodis shared that he will set-up a conference with SpaceX representatives “to invite them to start offering their services in Lithuania as soon as possible.” The Minister believes that Starlink can provide “innovative internet services.”

“Our interest is very simple, so that consumers in Lithuania would have a wide spectrum of different services and would have as much possibility as possible for different choices,” said Skuodis. “We would also want for such services [satellite internet] to appear in Lithuania as early as possible.” SpaceX is accepting broadband service pre-orders via its Starlink.com website on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. Customers are selected based on their location. The company is starting by connecting users who live outside dense cities, like small towns and rural regions. As more satellites are launched to space, SpaceX will increase the constellation’s capacity to serve more customers globally.

“It means that we in Lithuania will in fact be able to develop smart businesses that need good internet infrastructure, good accessibility and fast speed anywhere – in a forest, in a cabin by a lake, anywhere,” Lithuanian Economy Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė said on Friday. “That's a huge thing, and I believe it's important for both residents and businesses.” SpaceX says its Starlink ‘Better Than Nothing Beta’ service is capable of providing internet connection with speeds ranging from 50Mbps to 150Mbps [megabits per second] and latency from 20ms to 40ms [milliseconds]. Company officials said the speed will significantly increase to 300Mbps by the end of 2021.
