Tesla accounts for almost half of all NEV exports from China in the first half of the year. The company continues to be the clear leader in the EV market globally.

Tesla Giga Shanghai is Tesla's export hub and is proving its worth on a global scale as well. In the first half of 2022, the factory exported 97,182 vehicles, accounting for 48% of new energy vehicle (NEV) exports in China. Thus, Tesla was a key player in the market, bringing the success of all of China to a new level.

Chinese car exports reached 1.22 million units in the first half of the year, up 47.1% from a year earlier, according to data released on Thursday by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Of these, 202,000 were NEVs, which is 1.3 times more than last year and accounts for 16.6% of all car exports.

CAAM did not specify data by manufacturers, but CnEVPost did the calculation, based on publicly available data on Tesla deliveries published by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) in China.

The main number of cars were exported in January and February, 40,499 and 33,315 units respectively. In March, sales were focused on the domestic market. In April, Giga Shanghai was closed for three weeks due to the COVID-19 lockdown, and its full recovery lasted until mid-May.
