In addition to thousands of jobs for specialists and professionals in their field, Tesla will also create jobs for former workers who were employed in the production of brown coal from Lusatia, suggested Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy Jörg Steinbach. “So from a workforce perspective, Lusatia also benefits,” he told to RBB.

Tesla's factory could become the largest private employer in all of East Germany, offering 7,000 jobs in Phase 1, with the potential to expand to 40,000. "Provided the final extension becomes a reality this will mean up to 40,000 workers," said Steinbach to Tesmanian. The company is currently looking for specialists from hundreds of different fields, and has already hired more than 200 workers.

As unemployment rises in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, and the demand for certain goods and services disappears, thousands of Germans are losing their jobs. But many specialists who were involved in other industries will be able to find work at Tesla. Steinbach points out that someone who worked as a locksmith on an excavator in Lusatia, for example, will be able to use his knowledge as a locksmith for vehicles after giving up the job of mining brown coal.

Thus, the labor force of Lusatia will be able to benefit from the Tesla factory. The minister said Brandenburg lacks the capacity to provide the required number of skilled workers, so the California-based manufacturer's factory in Brandenburg could be a great alternative for those still working in the mining industry.

Beyond Tesla offering jobs at a company seeking to change the climate situation for the better and accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, the manufacturer generously rewards those who join the mission. Tesla intends to pay unskilled employees starting from 2,700 euros per month, which is about 20% higher than the regional average, said Thomas Kühne of the IHK (District Center of the Berlin Region).
