Tesla to open a 61,000-square-foot store and service center in Clermont, a suburb of Orlando, Florida. The project will provide jobs from the construction stage and will also send a strong signal to other brands that this is a good place to do business.

Clermont Auto Ventures LLC, associated with Maitland-based First Team Commercial, paid $4.8 million to Atlanta-based GK Rogers Construction LLC for a 9.8-acre site in Clermont, State Road 50, which will build a 61,000-square-foot building for Tesla store and service center, according to Biz Journal. The land is part of a larger 13.87-acre lot.

The locals see this as a big win. Beyond the opportunities related to building and permanent jobs the business will create, Tesla's decision to locate one of its stores in this Orlando metro area could signal to other upscale brands that this is a good place to open a store.

Planning for a new Tesla store on the site came to light in June when plans for the then-unnamed company were presented to the city of Clermont. Subsequent city documents revealed that First Team Commercial was developing the site specifically for Tesla. First Team Principal Tad Dixon confirmed that the project break ground by the end of this year and will be completed sometime in 2023.

“I think it's an exciting thing for south Lake County,” Dixon said. “This is going to be one of Tesla's largest facilities in the region.”

Dixon confirmed that he and his partner would retain ownership, while Tesla would be the tenant of the property.

This is the third Tesla store in metro Orlando. Its other locations are in Eatonville at 100 S. Lake Destiny Road and at the Florida Mall at 8001 S. Orange Blossom Trail. It also operates a collision repair center at 1051 W. Sand Lake Road.

While there are nine other car dealerships close to the location, the addition of a Tesla store makes a big difference, said local land expert Brad Parker of Longwood-based Southern Realty Enterprises, who is not involved with the deal.

“It's a great location,” Parker said, noting that it benefits from growing incomes in south Lake County in addition to its proximity to affluent Orange County suburbs Winter Garden and Windermere. “Tesla locating there shows the value of what they believe the demographics there will be, because not everyone can afford cars at that price point.”
