Tesla never ceases to amaze and impress the world community. The company has made huge strides in car development, but Model S Plaid has become an especially hot topic. Now the newly launched car has just become the fastest production electric car in the world ever tested on the "Green Hell" track—the Nürburgring.

Tesla Model S Plaid is in hardcore mode as it sets the official Nürburgring world record for production electric vehicles. This news was shared by the CEO of the company Elon Musk on Twitter on September 9. The car covered the track in a blistering 7:30.909, with an average speed of 166.32 km/h (103,35 mph). Thus, Model S Plaid defeated Porsche Taycan, which previously held the record for a 4-door production electric vehicle with a lap speed of 7:4200.

Scottish race car driver, three-time world champion in Formula 1 racing, Jackie Stewart, dubbed this track the "Green Hell." The North Loop (Nordschleife) is considered to be the most challenging ring circuit in the world, requiring the highest performance from cars and a great deal of professionalism from the drivers.

It should be kept in mind that for this race Tesla used a completely unmodified vehicle directly from the factory. In addition, the road surface on the highway is very similar to what you can find on public roads in everyday life. This race track is not like a specially equipped autodrome, but like a mountain road—difficult, treacherous, high-speed. A narrow tape of asphalt winds along the slopes and dives into blind turns, and behind the bumpers there is a forest, hence the name "Green Hell." The bumpy asphalt in places does not at all resemble the smooth as glass pavement of modern motor racing tracks. Therefore, we can say with confidence that by purchasing Model S Plaid, the owners will receive exactly the performance that was demonstrated at the Nürburgring.

That said, Tesla will still return to the Nürburgring again later, but with a modified Plaid. Musk wrote that the other car will have added aero surfaces, carbon brakes, and track tires, which should have a significant impact on the final results.
